The Deathis certain and inevitable. Besides, the human body has a nature of constant change. Is it not astonishing to yearn to keep it permanently unchanged? In fact, we have established an attachment to it. Actually, we are frightened of sickness, old age, and death.

In fact, both of these are just like arising and ceasing of mental feelings. We may describe the inhalation of breath as birth and the exhalation as death. Both of them are two sides of the same coin.

Today in the morning I wake up thinking about breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I continued thinking about thesethroughoutthe whole day. No effort was done to have these. of course, it would not serve any purpose? Certainly, the answer would be in negative.

Someone criticised me a week ago. The analysis of that event, again and again, will certainly, increase negative feelings about that person. Obviously, the feelings of hatred, animosity, and anger would arise in my mind.

I appeared in an examination. The result would be declared after two months.Definitely, To worry aboutwhether I would succeed ruins the enjoyment of present moments.

EXAMPLE

A cowherd went to a town to sell milk in an earthen pot over his head. A continuousthought process of how he would become the rich person one day by selling the milk. While doing so, he could not remain aware of the potholes on the path. Suddenly he fell down. The potbroke away and the milk spilled on the path.

The human personality has the nature of constant change. These changes simultaneously take place whenever there is a change in the external conditions. Therefore, a question may arise in every human mind about ” Who is he/she”.

In order to solve the problem, we ought to have to analyze another question as to ” What he/she is not”.

WHAT I AM NOT

To contemplate this tricky question, we will have to ascertain whether the body we possess can be called as self. The answer would certainly be a No. Actually, the feelings of self only arise in every human mind. The truth can be ascertained by developing a pure consciousness.

At certain moments we may become a person. On the other hand at other certain moments, we may not become a person. Naturally, self or no self is dependent on external prevailing conditions.
