Apart from observing we shall also CONTEMPLATE MENTAL FEELINGS TO ATTAIN ENLIGHTENMENT. Though its attainment is not a final destination rather a continuous process. Our Ego?is a dangerous obstacle which distracts us from our path.
In the last post, we have discussed four mental feelings. Now we will discuss the remaining four feelings.
HAPPINESS AND SUFFERING
Every human being is accustomed to possessing the external?objects liked by him. Similarly, everyone wishes to get rid off of unwanted objects. Both happiness and suffering have a nature of constant change. our clinging?and aversion to favorable and unfavorable conditions cause the misery. Therefore, it is a futile exercise to develop the mental?feelings of delight or dissatisfaction. Contemplation of these with awareness and wisdom will certainly, help to attain everlasting mental peace.
In order to achieve our goal, we shall observe every incident with mindfulness and right understanding. Our mental thought process changes?as per the changes in the circumstances.
” A person owned?a big house. One day fire engulfed it. The owner was crying in grief constantly. A few minutes later hi son reached there and informed him about the insurance. His grief fades away and a smile returned to his face.”
PRAISE AND BLAME
Today someone may praise me, tomorrow?the same person may criticise. Both of these conditions are inevitable. Whenever we cultivate the desire that everyone shall shower words of praise only to us causes unsatisfactoriness.
” My aspiration of respect only from family members, friends, neighbors, relatives, and colleagues will certainly enhance dissatisfaction. Whereas acceptance of both praise and blame as a natural phenomenon will result in happiness.”
Mental feelings of praise and blame, gain and loss, pleasure and sorrow constantly arise and pass away. Do not get disturbed and invite misery. It is fruitful to accept all of the external conditions ‘ as the way these are.’
