A question may arise in every mind as to how to LET GO THE MENTAL FEELINGS – DETACHMENT. In the path of letting go, attachment to self is the main hurdle. Since our birth, we develop a feeling of I and me to our body. Whereas, it is not so. Similarly, the otherworldly phenomena which we think as my or mine are also do not belong to us.
LET GO THE MENTAL FEELINGS – DETACHMENT
Actually, it is important to develop the wisdom of NOT SELF. We may achieve it by constantly contemplating the question of WHO AM I? In order to analyze it, we shall have to inquire about what I AM NOT? Certainly, the following analysis will be helpful in this contemplation.
Q1. Does this body is me?
A1. No. The body comprised of four aggregates, namely earth, water, air, and fire.
Q2. Do the parts of the body like eyes, hair, teeth, nails, skin, heart, lungs etc. are me?
A2. Certainly not. These body parts cannot be me.
Q3. Does the mind is me?
A3. No. Not at all.
Q4. Do the mental thought process is me?
A4. No. The mental thought process can never be me.
Therefore, we can not say that the body, its parts, and the mental thought process are I or me.
Similarly, the other notion whether the worldly phenomena belong to me is to be examined. Actually, the worldly phenomena arise from nature and cease in nature. Whatever is in my possession at this moment may not belong to me the very next moment. Something which is looking beautiful at this moment mat turn ugly very next moment. All these worldly phenomena belong to nature only and have a nature of changing from moment to moment.
The moment this wisdom of NOT SELF is developed, The process of LET GO becomes easy. Actually, we will have to let go of the attachment to the mental feelings and formations.
