Attachment to sensual desires causes suffering. it’s detachment results bliss. As soon as we establish contact with any outside object with any of our sense organ a feeling of like or dislike develops.
We bring unsatisfactoriness into existence by wishing for any thing and wanting to be any thing. This causes craving and aversion. Actually unsatisfactoriness is the child of desires so while doing meditation we shall focus on desires with awareness of their having the nature of impermanence, unsatisfactoriness and not self.
These desires does not include the requisite of food, water, air or any other material thing necessary for sustaining the life.
Only the desires of indulgence in sensual pleasure are to be witnessed.
Practice of meditation with awareness is very simple. Letting go of both the good and evil are to be practiced. We must remain mindful for these desires of sensual pleasure. Attachment to possessions, fame, loved ones etc., is the root cause of unhappiness.
AJAHN CHAH HAD SUMMERISED IT AS UNDER:-
“If you are mindful you’ll be at ease. Be cautious and restrained when the mind starts grasping at things and making a big deal out of them, you have to stop it. It will argue with you, but you have to put your foot down. Stay in the middle as the mind comes and goes. Therefore put sensual indulgence away on the one side; put self torment away on the other side.We put love on the one side, hate on the other side. Put happiness on the one side, suffering on the other side. Remain in the middle without letting the mind off in either direction.”
