Only the PRACTICE OF MEDITATION WITH AWARENESS ENSURES MENTAL PEACE. In order to achieve this goal, we ought to move ahead on the path of wisdom. One who only read scriptures, listen to scriptures, and chant prayers will never be able to succeed.

ACCOMPLISH TASK YOURSELF

Self-indulgence has no substitute. The following examples may cultivate the right understanding in our mind:-

1. While walking ahead on a road I reached near a hill. A curiosity arises in my mind about the scenario of the other side of that hill. A monk, who usually go on that side, very well narrated about the conditions. But, in order to enjoy the actual conditions, it is necessary that I reach on the top of the hill and see the prevailing conditions.

2. I have a basket full of mangos and a book containing a full description of them. Like their types, inside colors, and taste. I daily read the book but do not try to taste any of them. Even after reading the book daily, I would be ignorant about their actual taste. Naturally, to enjoy the actual taste it is essential that I eat the mangos.

TEACHER MAY GUIDE ONLY

Similarly, a teacher may also not be able to help us more than a guide. He will only explain the required steps to reach a certain destination. Obviously, we ourselves will have to accomplish the task according to his guidance. But still, our complete focus on each step is a must.

For an easy understand we may take help of another example:-

Every day I read some of the teachings explained in the book ‘ The Collected Teachings By Ajahn Chah. But I never tried any of those in my day to day life. Certainly, I won’t be able to gain any benefit. In order to reduce my mental defilements and attain peace practice of the teachings is a precondition.

CULTIVATE AWARENESS TO DEVELOP WISDOM

All of the human beings are required to follow and practice the path of meditation with awareness. It is essential that we cultivate and develop the right wisdom to accomplish every task. Naturally, all of us must have full focus while completing every bit of our daily chores.

1. To attain any goal we will have to involve ourselves with full focus and awareness.

2. The teacher will be able to provide his guidance only.

  1. I like your example that teacher may only guide you to a certain point. You need to have the experience to truly understand the nature of what you are trying to learn.

    • Thanks for reading. Actually, the meditation practice is a 24 x 7 exercise. It is required that we accomplish all of our tasks, like walking, speaking, listening, seeing, tasting, touching, lying down, and thinking, etc. with full awareness. furthermore, as we know that all the worldly things are constantly changing, we shall develop the ability to let go of the mental feelings of clinging to the outside objects.
