The practice of the MEDITATION ENSURES TRANSFORMATION OF DEFILEMENTS INTO VIRTUES. The mental defilements like greed, lust, anger, jealousy, animosity represent the negative energy. Suppression of this energy is dangerous. In order to transform it into virtues, we must practice meditation with the right understanding.
AVOID CLINGING OR AVERSION
Whenever we establish contact through our sense organs with outside objects, the mind evaluates those conditions. Either the conditions may be good, favorable, pleasant or bad, unfavorable, and unpleasant. As soon as the mind completes the evaluation a mental feeling of desire arises. Obviously, we wish to keep the good, favorable, and pleasant one permanently with us. It develops clinging to the outside conditions. On the other hand, we wish to get rid off of the bad, unfavorable, and unpleasant one, resulting in aversion.
We are bound to feel dissatisfaction as we do not have any control over the conditions.
TRANSFORMATION OF DEFILEMENTS
Actually, it is required that we contemplate the mental feelings without any attachment to the desires. The outside conditions have the characteristics of:-
1. Constant changes.
2. Causes unsatisfactoriness.
3. Self is not connected.
But, due to ignorance, we establish desire of clinging or aversion as per our likes and dislikes. The unfulfillment of our desires gives rise to the negative energies. It is essential that we transform them into a positive one. To succeed in our endeavor we shall practice the mediation with the right understanding and awareness. It develops the mental ability to accept the outside conditions as a witness only. As a result, the negative energies get transformed into positive ones. Therefore, it is prudent to practice meditation while performing our daily tasks and be successful in transforming the defilements into virtues.
Me and one of my friends invested Rs. One lac each in some securities. After one year I suffered a loss whereas my friend gained a profit. Both the conditions may cause feelings of dissatisfaction and jealousy into my mind. By doing meditation with awareness, I would certainly be able to accept both the situations without any resentment. As a result, the dissatisfaction will subside and the mind will achieve everlasting peace.
All the human beings have the ability to transform their mental defilements into virtues. It is essential that they observe and accept the outside conditions without any clinging or aversion.
