The Death?is certain and inevitable. Besides, the human body has a nature of constant change. Is it not astonishing to yearn to keep it permanently unchanged? In fact, we have established an attachment to it. Actually, we are frightened of sickness, old age, and death.
DEATH SIMULTANEOUSLY FOLLOWS BIRTH
In fact, both of these are just like arising and ceasing of mental feelings. We may describe the inhalation of breath as birth and the exhalation as death. Both of them are two sides of the same coin.
Besides, the death follows the birth every moment. But when and how it will occur is unpredictable. It is important that we accomplish all our tasks being ready to embrace it joyfully every moment.
WHY ARE WE FRIGHTENED
A child is born with a body and consciousness. All the other phenomena are cultivated and developed later on. We accumulate other knowledge from parents, family members, friends, teachers, and society.
Here a question may arise as to why we are frightened of this inevitable natural phenomena? Don’t you think so? When it is certain then why we hesitate to celebrate it joyfully.
The reason being we establish an attachment to our body and the mental feelings. Due to this attachment, the desire for its permanence crops up in the mind. We may describe these as under:-
The desire of grasping of the good/favorable/pleasant external conditions.
To get rid of the bad/unfavorable/unpleasant situations.
Attachments to the mental beliefs and perceptions.
DEATH CELEBRATION TRANSFORMS MENTAL DEFILEMENTS
Certainly, we will refrain from impure mental feelings once we start embracing the death at any time.
It is an established fact that:-
“A DYING PERSON WILL ALWAYS SPEAK THE TRUTH.”
It is not out of place to mention that Judiciary accept the dying declaration as a true evidence.
- Obviously, we would be able to transform the impurities into purity and virtues.
Instead of animosity/hatred/greed/lust, we would be able to express and share compassion/kindness/gratitude/generosity.
MEDITATION ENSURE RIGHT VIEW
In order to attain the state of non-grasping, we shall practice meditation. It will ensure the cultivation and development of awareness and wisdom. The practice with right understanding will enhance our capacity to accept both birth and death joyfully.
